The Central Florida Pharmacy Council (CFPC) is a professional volunteer community 501 (c) 3 organization. Founded in 1996 by a pharmacist, the mission of the CFPC is to improve the health and wellness of African Americans and minorities through the presentation and development of culturally appropriate health education programs. The purpose of CFPC’s community health education programs are to improve the health status and empower African Americans and minorities to take a proactive approach in the management of their health.
In 1997, CFPC sponsored its First Black Men’s Health & Wellness Summit in Orlando. Each year the attendance and participation at this event has increases. Our most recent Summit held in April had more than 3,000 men in attendance. There is no cost for the participants to attend the Summit’s health education program and screenings for prostate cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, HIV, kidney disease, stomach ulcers, oral cancer, and lung function. Since 1997, The Central Florida Pharmacy Council has provided health education to more than 20,000 Orange County residents and “free” health screening to more than 13,000 Central Florida underinsured and uninsured residents. These health education program and health screenings were provided to men’s church groups, fraternities, the local jail, homeless shelters, health department units, on the street, at barbershops, health fairs and at the Black Men’s Health & Wellness Summits. CFPC also publishes an African American Health Resource Directory.
